You are beautiful

Dear Granny,

You inspire me.

The lines and cervices carved deep into every layer of your skin

Tell a tragic story of a life without meaning,

Without cause

The lines around your mouth curve into a grin a mile wide

The crow’s feet around your eyes crinkle mischievously

I can see deep behind your eyes that you’re life is tragic.

It wasn’t always this way

Once she was a girl, with a poetic heart and a pure unburdened soul with a mind full of tranquil thoughts untainted by society

That was before

Her morals where unbreakable and her mind buzzed with thoughts of a new day, a new chance,

Optimism

She wasn’t just your typical beauty,

She radiated love, femininity, and an inner beauty that could be seen for a mile around.

That was before.

She met him and fell in love with his kind eyes and his soft spoken words

His flawless mind-set and his ability to charm her with his eyes closed

They danced, they spoke, they laughed, and they kissed.

They didn’t get their happily-ever-after.

That was before

He grew and his kind eyes were replaced with evil glares and his unspoken words often turned sour at the tip of his tongue

Hi mind-set was replaced with a cruel emptiness

His charm ran away with the smile he once bared

They sat in silence, he grimaced and he took advantage of that girl,

With the poetic heart.

She couldn’t leave or say good-bye because she hoped and begged for him to return, her prince in charming who had swept her off her petite feet

She had come to learn that he had ran off to a far away land

A place she could not find in this reality

That was before

With every potent year came another line signifying

The hurt that ran deep inside her kind heart

The scars lay bare reminding her that the hurt wasn’t just mental

It ran through her clenched veins, her thrumming heart and her punctured will

Seconds became minutes

Minutes became hours

Hours became days

Days became months

Months came years

Years became a lifetime

For a lifetime she waited for her solider clad in shining armor to save her

From the fate she bestowed

‘Come back to me’ she would pray with her hopes soaring

She prayed to the holy gods continually hoping for their blessing

It was not meant to be

She waited too long

For her prince wasn’t coming down this path anymore

He was gone and she couldn’t let go

Of the future with him she had never had

Or never did have

The beautiful youthful girl is still in there

Hidden behind a life time of hurt

Her soul is still untainted and her laugh still holds the same twinkle

She inspires me

She can live through so much hatred and pain

And still live her life as if every day is a blessing.
